Content restrictions on forum are terrible UX

Hey there,

I have tried to share:

  • a linkedin post
  • a google drive image share
  • upload a video
  • a yt short share

All of these were blocked by your moderation policy.

They were all related to the topic of installing a GPU in the Ampere Altra Developer Platform.

This is terrible UX that makes sharing and collaboration needlessly hard.

Also: The number of posts in a time period is restricted - I have a limited amount of time during my day when I am not focused on my job where I can distribute content and reply to others posts.

Hi isaric,

I’ve been able to post a few of those items from your list in the past. It may well be that because you’re a newish user those rights haven’t been granted yet. I suppose these protections are in place so the forum does not suffer from spam, trolling and all the other online ills. One of the admins like @Aaron should be able to offer advice and help.

Hello @isaric,
@vikingforties is correct, it has to do with the new user status that Discourse put on members and spam. But you are correct they were a little too restrictive so I changed them. A new user can now post up to 3 links in a post.

And let me know if you are still having issues.

Thanks for the feed back and we look forward to your post.

Thanks,
Aaron

Thanks for the replies @Aaron @vikingforties
Is the block for LinkedIn and YouTube only for new members or is this an all-time ban?

it is for new users. The idea is that discourse doesn’t want people to sign up and then just post spam. We had that happen last year, so we locked things down and probably went a little too far.
