I did not used OpenBMC before AsrockRack ALTRABUD-1L2T motherboard. At home the only other BMC I have is the one on Supermicro X10SLL-F motherboard.
There are things which make me wonder why they are at all there.
“Inventory and LEDs” page has 'DIMM slot", “Fans”, “Power supplies”, “Processors” sections with “No item available”. I understand psu section to not list anything – I used normal desktop PSU in my build. But other sections? There are 8 dimms in slots, 2 fan connectors in use and one cpu in socket.
“Sensors” section shows five FANx + five FANx_1 entries all as OK. System has 2 fans connections in use…
I do not care much does BMC shows me hardware details correctly. I only need a few things from it:
KVM
SOL console
Virtual media
Power control (on, off, reboot)
Those work fine.
I do not know, maybe beta firmware has it better but I am not a fan on beta firmwares (had to recover some x86-64 systems in the past).
The production OpenBMC firmware is missing functionality, and even the beta firmware is getting old now (it was released in January). For some reason ASRock Rack aren’t promoting the beta firmware to production status, so if you don’t like the beta label you’re going to be stuck on firmware that isn’t quite complete.
The upstream OpenBMC work is still going on. Fortunately I have some help now from someone who’s much more familiar with how Yocto/OpenEmbedded etc. works so I’m hoping we can start making good progress on it.
