Ubuntu 26.04 support on Ampere Altra Developer Platform

Hello,

is it possible to install ubuntu 26.04 on the AADP? Should I update to the latest firmware before trying?

I am also interested in SUSE Linux Enterprise 16.

My machine currently runs the Ampere Ubuntu Server 22.04.

I wonder what hardware hurt you in the past that you have to ask such question.

Ampere Altra system should work fine with newer releases of popular distributions. I use Fedora 44 with 6.19.x kernel and never wondered ‘will it work or not’.

I had issues when installing ubuntu 22.04 if it was not from Amperes repos.

I wonder what hardware hurt you in the past that you have to ask such question.

Not a fan of your style of communication, btw.

Hi Isaric,

Ubuntu 26.04 is new, so I am not sure if it has been validated on Ampere Altra yet, but I have every confidence that it will work well. I believe that Ampere Altra and AmpereOne servers are both part of the Canonical test matrix for aarch64 builds.

I have similar confidence in SLE 16 - I will check with our OS team whether they know of any issues.

Thanks,
Dave.
