512 Core Machines are coming

You might have heard that Ampere announced an update to it roadmap a 512 core processor. If not, check out this link Introducing AmpereOne® Aurora

One of the good things about it, is that it is air cooled (i.e. you don’t have to use liquid cooling), so it will be energy efficient and will work with existing Data Centers. From the blog announcement, here are the three big bullet points that Ampere sees as the future requirements for server chips:

  1. Efficient: There is no need to compromise our industry’s climate goals
  2. Air-Cooled: It must be deployable in all existing data centers
  3. Integrated: AI acceleration is needed directly in the SOC
