Nvidia 3090 Card working, but boot times are really slow

Just wanted people to know took a day but finally got an ADLink Developer Board to boot with a Nvidia Geforce 3090 Card. I have a 1500 Watt Power Supply in the machine. I couldn’t get Ubuntu 26.04 to install something to do with TPM 2.0 and I couldn’t figure out how to disable that, so I installed 22.04 then upgraded that to 24.04 LTS. From there installed the drivers, etc from the directions. And with some tweaking it now works.

I would say though the machine takes FOREVER to boot up and sometimes it get’s stuck where the board says AF and nothing happens. I get no signal in the BMC KVM and usually if I then power down everything, unplug it from the wall for 30 seconds and boot it back up to BMC and the manually power on the machine from the BNC I can get it to show video and then eventually see the Grub boot screen. But this is seriously like 5 minutes. It’s not for the faint of heart to say the least.

Does anyone know what you can do to speed up the boot times? I also for my life can’t get ipmitool in SOL mode to see anything at all. I don’t have a serial cable and I was hoping that I could use a virtual one. I event into the console settings in BIOS and tried a several different locations (it lists a lot of them).

You can turn off “redfish” if you are not using it - it’ll speed up post times - but it’s server grade hardware and long startup is kind of the norm. The BMC thing - definitely upgrade to the latest stable firmware\bios\bmc, it has helped with the BMC stability. I’m on the asrock board. It’s probably similar. The virtual serial works fine. It definitely sounds like you’re on a glitchy firmware, the serial console and such was hanging for me until I updated. I’d avoid the beta branch unless you have a specific reason to use it, that one was unstable for me, but this was a couple months back.

I leave my system on. It doesn’t use a lot of power and I host things on it as well.

It is a BMC (Baseboard Management Controller) standard - basically a firmware program that allows you to connect remotely to the chassis and do all sorts of operations (cycling power, diagnosing hardware, changing boot options, etc).
