June 2023 Ampere Developer Newsletter

Hello Everyone,

We have been quite busy in May, with attending events, planning for one coming up, opening of our Dev.to page, etcetera, etcetera…

Microsoft Build Update

Ampere’s Developer Relations team was in Seattle where we took part in Microsoft’s Build event. We met a lot of you at our booth (thanks for coming by) and at our first ever meetup, “Ping Pong and Pints”. It was great to be able to chat with so many community members while having a beer and attempting to play ping pong. We are still recovering from the event and but we did our retrospective blog posted. You can also check out our MSFT Build page and see some great content, such as a conversation between Dave Neary (Ampere’s director of Developer Relations) and Ryan MacLean (Dev Rel with Datadog) on the importance of monitoring applications on the cloud.

Dev.to

We are doing a soft release of our new Dev.to organization and we wanted you to be the first to know. We have just started to post there, but soon we will be releasing a lot more content. Please take a few minutes, look around, and let us know what you think and please comment and share the articles.

FOSSY

As you probably know, we are hosting a track for the Free and Open Source Software Yearly (FOSSY) conference. We have a have a half day track and will be sending out acceptance emails soon. And plan your trip now, FOSSY is July 13-16.

Developer Center Highlights

There has been a lot of new content posted to the Ampere Developer Center, especially tuning guides. Here are some highlights:

Community Highlights

In April, we had Jeff Geerling asking questions on how to get Windows 11 working on Ampere Dev Platform and then he posted a video for the fastest desktop out there. He never fully got Windows to work (MSFT please release a true ISO), but community members from Cloudbees and q66 have posted some help. We are looking forward to part two of the series. Also, you can check his and Patrick’s, from Server the Home, video comparing a RPi cluster with Ampere Altra Max Server.

One of the more active threads is about community members getting their first Developer Kit up and running. Since these devices are so new, there are a couple of kinks still to work out. But it is great seeing the community coming together to help each other out!

We are now bilingual with our first post in French! Dan from Scaleway posted a link to their podcast about deploying and managing AArch64 machines at a data center.

CFP’s

We want you to be able to get out there and speak at events, so we have been collecting CFP’s for events coming up. Check it out here and let us know where you are speaking.
